“Yards After Contact” is the newest sports painting by Dustin Curtis. This painting is one of several planned paintings commemorating the 2009 National Championship run by the University of Alabama football team. Dustin describes the painting below. “I had been contemplating and working on the sketch for this painting for several weeks and I wanted to do something to portray the running style of our Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram. Throughout the year I kept hearing the phrase “yards after contact” and I couldn’t get that out of my head while working on the painting. This painting is not of any particular play but is more of my expression of the effort and determination of Mark Ingram on every play. It almost always took several players to tackle him and I could have depicted almost any team in this, but decided on Florida and the SEC Championship. This painting is in my normal impressionistic style.” Dustin Curtis |
